Airtel and Vi are opposing Jio on their 100 rs MNP Plan to Trai

MNP Rules: Reliance Jio, one of the most popular telecom companies of the country, has made a new plan for Mobile Number Portability i.e. MNP in front of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI. This plan can be beneficial for the customers, but the other two big and popular telecom companies of the country, Airtel and Vodafone-Ideo, have opposed this plan of Jio. Let us tell you this plan and the reason for the protest.

Jio’s new offer

Actually, under the current rules, postpaid customers get a maximum discount of up to Rs 10 for porting any mobile number to another network. This means that if you are a postpaid customer and want to port your number, then the outstanding balance with your existing company should not be more than Rs 10.

If the outstanding balance on the SIM is more than Rs 10 then you will not be able to port your number. However, if your outstanding is Rs 10 or less, then companies ignore it and port the customer number to some other number.

Now, according to a report by Financial Express, Reliance Jio has presented the ‘Draft Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (9th Amendment) Regulations, 2023’ before the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Through this, while presenting its new plan, Jio proposed that the maximum discount given to postpaid customers in the outstanding amount for number porting should be increased from Rs 10 to Rs 100.

Airtel and Vi expressed objection

This means that if the outstanding amount of postpaid users is Rs 100 or less, then they can port it to another number. However, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea openly opposed this plan of Jio. He says that this will have a very bad impact on the revenue of telecom companies. Companies will have to face huge losses. At the same time, Jio says that this new process will benefit the users because the current process is quite difficult.
